This is where I was last night

Last night we went to see Green Day play in Sacramento. Opening act was the above, whom I really like and was so pleased that they opened!
We were not suppose to take photos, and as a matter of fact I got busted taking the Franz Ferdinand one. The picture above is of lead sing Billie Joe Armstrong taken by by brother in law. He and his friends made it down to the pit and up very close to the stage. This is the second time I have seen them in concert, and they put on one heck of a great show! It was David and Caitlin's first time to see them, they were impressed as much as I was when I first saw them in 2005.
I was amazed once again, with the passion and energy of their concerts. It was a three hour show, with none of them taking a break, except for the encore.
They are local boys from the Bay Area, and cut their teeth so to speak, at the infamous 924 Gilman punk club. Go to the two links provided and see what they are all about. Their home page has some great, professional shots of the concerts; unfortunately the Sacramento pictures are not posted yet. Although I think this picture that my brother in law took was pretty darn good, considering the limitations.

I'm super beat though, and didn't get home until 1:30 am. We lost track of where we parked, and it took forever to locate the car. Poor Caitlin had an 8:00 am class, luckily David stayed home today and was a prince for taking her to school , letting me sleep for another hour.
Next concert hopefully will be my favorite guys (U2) when they decide to come to my neck of the woods, which I think is spring 2010! If Green Day decides to do one more show in the Bay Area, I may go again, they are that good!

Onto another project

This is my next project. Caitlin has been wanting me to make this pattern for quite some time now, and I kept waiting to find the right fabric. Well, the right fabric happened to be in my closet! There was exactly enough to make this, and I even had some plain white cotton fabric for the lining. This will be such a breeze to make, after the last thing I made for Caitlin. I really
like this fabric, because it has such a nice drape to it. I think it must be blended with a rayon or something, because it isn't a stiff eyelet. As you can see from above, it has a nice scallop edge, that I really think is going to look pretty darn cute at the bottom of the pant legs.
So......I'm off to start on it, and see if I can get it done so that she can wear it to school on Monday maybe....We shall see. (remember, you can click on the photo to see the fabric up close)

Hope everyone has a great weekend...Is it really the weekend already??!

Ta da!

Here is an upclose picture of the dress I just finished. The fabric is Ana Sui.
Here's the whole picture!

This dress was quite and undertaking,as the bodice has flat lining, then regular lining with boning in it. It is a very fitted dress on top,and I had to do quite a bit of alterations, to whittle it down to fit her. She loves it thank goodness! I can see though, why they discontinued carrying the pattern at McCalls. What looks like a simple summer dress, really isn't. I'm sure a lot of people were turned off by all the lining and boning. Next up, something a bit more simple, either an apron or this really cute 1930's sweetheart overalls for Caitlin. Both patterns are from "Decades of style."
Well, I best be off now and get cutting!

Tag your it!

Hi everyone! I had hoped to post a picture of the dress that I finished for Caitlin, but I haven't had a chance to take photos of her in it. Hopefully, today she will carve out a bit of time for me to snap her picture. So, until then, I've been tagged by "Acorn Cottage" for 6 random things about myself. I'll do what I usually do and invite anyone who hasn't done one in a while and wants to tell us more about yourself to play along. Oh, the above picture was taken in Bath England. We were walking to our car, and saw this beautiful sight in the sky.

Six random things:

1. On first glance, you wouldn't know that I'm half Panamanian and speak fluent Spanish.

2. Cooked my first turkey dinner when I was about 9. My mom fell ill on a holiday, and had to instruct me from her sick bed. It turned out pretty good as I recall.

3. I've been sewing for 31 years...and still love it!

4. I get real sad seeing people not be environmentally conscious. For example, using disposable plastic plates at parties in their home, when they could of used real dishes. I would never want to tell my future grandchildren that I was sorry the soil is now toxic with plastic, but I just didn't feel like washing dishes."

5. I love birds! When I was very young I asked for binoculars for Christmas, so I could do some bird watching in my back yard.

6. I once saw a primordial dwarf in San Francisco, and couldn't believe my eyes. She was so adorable and full of life. My oldest daughter , at the time, was about 2 or three, and she towered over her. The little girl was probably not even 20 inches tall. They now have shows on TLC about them, but for years, I could swear that I dreamt the whole thing.

I forgot to show you these

I completely forgot to show you these shams that I bought on my trip to Paris. We went to the "Fragonard" boutique, and I fell in love with these little shams.
I think the translation is as follows, I dream of, jewelry, of champagne,of distant voyages,of the forbidden, but most of all to sleep with you. If anyone thinks this is wrong that speaks fluent French, let me know.
The mans pillow says, I dream of beautiful cars, of grand wines, of adventures, of the forbidden, but most of all to sleep with you.
Caitlin bought a pair also, that has words that say J'taime and it makes a heart. Hers is red and white.
Anyway, I thought I'd share these since I think they are pretty unusual.
Next post will be of Caitlin's dress, which turned out pretty darn cute I must say! I need her to model it for me tomorrow. Until then....have a pleasant weekend!
