5 more days!

This is a little embroidery project that I will be doing while recovering from my hip surgery. All the bunnies are white with accents of brown, and the letters are outlined in white. I think I will put it on natural linen. Maybe it will be all finished for Easter.
My mother in law was so sweet, and sent me these three books in the mail yesterday. I was wondering what reading material to bring to the hospital. Now I have three lovely books to choose from, and who knows, I may get through all three by the time I recover. Thanks Joan :)

I had a slight freak out last week about doing this surgery, but it has past now, and I feel much better going into it. Valentine's dinner confirmed it for me, since I could barely sit through the whole dinner without severe pain. It is kind of embarrassing also, when you try and get out of the chair and you are all hunched over, because you are afraid that it won't go back into the socket! Pretty much every time I sit longer than 40 min. or so, it seems to dislocate slightly. Every time I walk into a restaurant, I really have to decide if I will be able to tough it out. Well, hopefully those days will be over. For that part I'm really excited, the actual hospital experience, not so much. Fear of the unknown is weighing heavily I'm afraid. All I can say is that I'm really looking forward to February 23rd, when the whole thing is over, and I can start my recovery.
Wish me luck, and I may or may not be blogging, we shall see. Something tells me though, that I won't be able to stay away for too long.

  1. Hi Elizabeth--
I had gallbladder surgery last February (20th) and I know all about what you are feeling. The unknown IS scary, especially when I hadn't ever had surgery before.
How long will you be in the hospital and will you have Physical Therapy to do? Good Luck and you will be in my prayers!
    Keep us posted.

If you are in the hospital for several days bring along some things that make you feel comfy. That will help you feel better.

  8. Hi Elizabeth, Just thinking of you and wanting to wish you the very best! I don't know if you have had surgery before but I know how scary it can feel, I've been there, and I just know you are going to do great and it will be such a tremendous relief to have this behind you! Since I live so close I wish I could offer to help but I am only up and waddling about a couple of hours a day now so I am afraid I am not of much help to anyone! But, you are in my thoughts and prayers! You will be on the road to recovery very soon!
    Hugs and best wishes, Cece

  10. I have a strong feeling that your wonderful family and friends are going to make sure that your recovery goes smoothly. Let them care for you...think positive and focus on a pain free future. Don't fight the need to sleep afterwards, it's your body trying to heal!!
    Best of luck!

  11. Elizabeth: My son and his wife live in Oakland. I look forward to hearing about the places you go (especially restaurants) to pass along to them and to go with them when my husband and I visit. Thanks for your "visit".

  12. Dona Tomas was the first restaurant that we visited with the kids. It was delicious. They dine there often. We also took them to Chez Panisse our first visit there. I believe that we've also been to the pizza place that you mentioned.

Our son works for a media company based in NYC and is taking an intense 15 month animation course that is taught by some of the top animators of several companies including PIXAR. Of course, he'd love to work to PIXAR but is willing to go with any company once he's finished. This has been a goal of his through college and grad school.

We now live in Indiana very close to Chicago and, if the traffic is with us, can be in the Loop in about 45 minutes. We do most of our shopping, dining, etc. in Chicago including Shakespeare at Navy Pier.

Are you also from the Indiana/Illinois area?
