Valentine Dinner Recap and Our Weird Weather

Flora never disappoints. We had such a beautiful meal here, from the signature cocktails to the dessert at the end. We have decided it is our favorite place for nice/casual dinners. It is a place you can either dress up and make an event out of it, or just go casual and enjoy the fun atmosphere.
I'll just get to the dessert part of the dinner :)  I had the peanut butter brownie, with bourbon cream.

David had the salted carmel pudding. We usually split dessert when we do have them, but hey, it was Valentine's Day, so we decided to go all out. Nice evening and great food.

Last week this is what it looked like, for literally two minutes the clouds burst into this down pour, then that was it! We have had no rain since, and an extremely dry January.
Now, it has looked like this most days, with 70 degree temps and feeling a lot like spring. You can smell it in the air, and I can feel my eyes itching with the pollen floating around.  I'm one of those that have developed spring time allergies later in life, so it is a whole new world for me. My poor husband has suffered with horrible allergies all his life, so he is properly medicated during this time of year, but still cursing at the yellow acacias that are blooming everywhere.
I noticed the barren bushes out side starting to yield to new life, and little buds all over most of the trees, starting to emerge. We have such mild winters, that by February it is already feeling like spring time, and it always slightly disappoints me. I feel as if we just put the sandals away, and short sleeves, and now we are reaching for them again. I know that some will read this and wish they had this sunny weather, but truly you can never really appreciate the warm weather and spring when  you don't have four true seasons. When we lived in France, I finally got to feel what it was like to have them all, and you really rejoice when spring time comes after such a chilling winter. I guess I like variety, and no matter how beautiful the weather is most of the time here in the Bay Area, I want a true winter!  Don't get mad at me please if you are trapped right now in your house with tons of snow, it's just me I guess.

I'm putting the finishing touches on the cute baby dress I have been working on and it will be up in the shop this coming week. The Liberty fabric is calling my name, and I can't wait to cut into it, kind of sort of, since it always makes me sad to take scissors to such beautiful fabric.   Hopefully I will be more productive than I have been as of late, and have many more little items in the shop soon. I had one customer that cleaned out all the little tops, so I have to make some more of those.

Hope everyone had a fun Valentine's day!

  3. Recently I had the pleasure of eating at the NY campus of the Culinary Institute of America. I had their salted chocolate pudding that was to die for. Your desserts brought me back to that delicious event.
Although I, too, do not live in frigid climes, I don't have it as good as you. Right about now I am going stir crazy and long for Spring. There have been a few signs that it is coming, but it still could not come soon enough.
BTW, congratulations on doing your blog for 5 whole years. That is an enormous accomplishment.

  4. Thanks Carolina :) That salted caramel pudding David ate was AMAING!! We went back yesterday (Sunday) for brunch and it was so good. We really love this place.

Yes, I can't believe it has already been five years doing this blog. It really is funny to go back and see some of the earlier stuff.
Hope to see more posts from you soon ;)
