First off, I have had a set back in my recovery, because of my lower back. Today, I was so happy to be able to go to physical therapy to seek some pain relief.
I got to drive for the first time since my surgery, so after I dropped Caitlin off at school today, I drove myself to the PT. I surveyed the parking lot, to look for a spot with enough room to fully open the door. When you have hip precautions, you have to get in the car in a special way, that requires a lot of room. So, I parked in a spot that was next to a 10 min. spot, thinking that I had a good chance that there wouldn't be any cars lingering too long in that spot.
I walk out of the PT, to see one of the above beasts parked next to me. I'm already feeling my blood pressure rising at the mere sight. It wasn't until I walked over to the drivers side, that I really lost it! The Suburban, was literally, no joke, four inches from my door!!!!
To say I was furious was an understatement!! Here I am with horrible lower back pain, hip precautions, and then I see that! I had evil thoughts of smashing the windows and keying the darn thing, but then I couldn't make a clean getaway, so instead, I decided to try and find the owner of said beast. No luck, and did I mention it was parked in a 10 min. spot?! 10 min. had come and gone many times over while I was trying to figure out how I was going to get in my car. I walked into one of the businesses and asked a receptionist if they happen to have seen the person who parked there. No, she says, and then she decided to help me find the person. 20 more minutes have now passed. After no luck locating the moron who parked next to me, the receptionist, who by the way was elderly, and very smartly dressed, decides she will climb in the passenger seat, and pull my car out of the parking spot. Bless her heart !! You could see her little high heeled feet sticking up while trying to maneuver her way over the console.
If anyone reading this owns one of these, please, please, check to see how close you parked next to the other car,
or next time, you may come out to smashed windows and keyed up doors.
This is not the first time this has happened to me. I have had way too many run ins with these types of cars, and I wonder sometimes what people are thinking when they are driving these things.
Thanks for listening to my rant of the day!
* Apologies to those who own one of these, and are conscientious drivers and parkers.
Oh goodness--
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that you are having a set back. Hopefully that will change soon.
There are soooooooooooo many people in this world that have NO respect for others! They just were not in class at home when and IF this concept was taught!
I have a Sportage and try very hard to park between the lines.
Take care and be good to yourself.

I know what you mean! My biggest pet peeve is anyone who doesn't pay enough attention to their surroundings to realize when they are inconveniencing others. How nice of the lady to help you. It would have been really good if you'd had some adhesive-backed paper (the kind that doesn't come off easily) to have left a note on the windshield for the inconsiderate parker.

Bonnie
You and Caitlin are my hero(ines)!! Keep up the good work. I'll expect to have no trouble parking when I next visit San Francisco/Oakland"etc.

Bonnie
Sorry about your day !
ReplyDeleteOver here we only see these on (American)TV movies but people still park inconsiderately !
I remember when I drove a 2-door car with my DD as a baby, the same thing happened to me on the side where the car seat was !
And since you can be sure I've always be careful how close I park ! these people deserve to have their car door scratch or damaged !!!
I'm happy though to hear you were able to drive on your own ! yay for freedom !

Could you embroider us those Whole Food sayings and put them on pins? When you're finished, you may come on over for lunch. Another reason I shop mostly at WW is that I don't have to spend time reading labels to see what's in the product. My time is worth something. And, I find the employees extremely helpful. They don't just answer a question, they stop what they're doing and lead you to where you need to be. It's immaculate and well lit. I shall return-again and again and again. And, you're right, WW really isn't more expensive, especially for what you get. Now I've got to go wash the fresh asparagus from a local farm. Sure you don't want to come for dinner instead?

I abhor big suvs! I know this is snobby and I am not saying I'm proud of it but based on previous life experiences, I have concluded that I have zip in common with people who drive big suvs. It is a sure thing that we will just not get along....there are people who drive suvs and there are people who just wouldn't dream of it and I'm the latter. For the record; I drive a Passatt wagon, nothing fancy, super practical, and not a example of what gives us Americans gluttonous reputations. Okay, I am stepping off my soap box. :) Take good care! -Cece
ReplyDeleteHi CeCe, I really hope you are doing well with the babies, I sure wish you had a blog, so we could see how adorable they are.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the SUV. The mentality of driving one of those darn things is usually a person that I wouldn't be pals with at all.
I'm a Volvo station wagon driver myself :)
Head on over to Betty's in your Volvo! I've been known as "Volunteer Vera in a Volvo" forever. My only regret is that I didn't buy two 240 DLs and save one. I'm into "square" body type cars! My older son's first car was my old Volvo wagon. Who speeds in a Volvo?
ReplyDeleteHappy Eating!
Bonnie
I'm so sorry you are having a rough time.Hang in there! Guess we will have to start calling you Elin Nordegren if you act on that SUV rage. LOL! Feel better.
