The Tracy Reese dress is finished

Hello there, I have emerged from my sewing room with a completed garment that I actually like. The fabric was wonderful to work with and I think it worked well with this pattern. I didn't have the energy to slip it on and pose in it, so I took a few shots of it in random spots. I really need to get a dress form. This is a detail of the front, and as you can see the fabric is a bit sheer, so I will be wearing a camisole and a slip with it. I was too lazy to line the skirt.
Front
Back
French seams. This took a bit of time to do, and I think I would have been done sooner, had it not been for all of these. The dress is very nicely finished on the inside though.
And finally the invisible zipper, shown from the inside, and bound on the edges. Phew.....I'm so happy to have completed this dress and actually like it enough to wear it in public.
My next project is a top that should be fun to make. I will do a post later on it.

  7. Did you hear that big gust of wind in California? No? Don't worry it was just me gasping at the first photo in your post with the light coming through the dress. I think it is just PERFECT. The trickiest part in successful home sewn dresses, in my opinion, is getting the details right and professionally finished- all 61 steps on your dress reached that level. The part that is most difficult to "land" in home sewn dresses is the pairing of the desired pattern with the right fabric. This you also managed to achieve with ease. Make sure you let Anna Maria Horner know about your success. I am seeing her tomorrow at a workshop she is giving - I will also be telling her about your dress and how gorgeous it turned out. Well done! Carolina

  10. Yes, indeed, have Caitlin take a photograph of you in the dress. The fabric design and color is beautiful and the style is gorgeous.

An aside: I like that Caitlin's name is spelled in the classic way!!

    Best,
    Bonnie

  12. Amazing!!! You are so talented! And yes, if you ever get a dress form, you should name it. Better yet, you should have a naming contest :) hehe
